Phat Tich Temple: Seated Buddha

This is the main statue in Phat Tich Temple and according to a stele inside the temple, it was created in 1057. The Buddha is seated on a throne engraved with dragons. The Buddha has tight curly hair and a prominent usnisa. The distinctive eyebrows are perfectly arched and joined at the bridge of the nose. The eyes are cast downwards, the nose is clearly defined, and the lips are thick. Three lines are visible along the neck. The Buddha forms the dhyana (meditation) mudra. He wears a loose outer robe and an inner robe that is knotted at the waist. While the facial features and neck are full, the body is quite slender. Overall the statue exhibits the style of the Chinese Northern Song dynasty (960–1127). |
