Drakgo Monastery: Donors

These two relief carvings are located on the west cliff in the vicinity of Drakgo Monastery in Markam county, Qamdo, Tibet. They are each just over 1 m in height, and date from the Tibetan Empire (circa 7th–9th century). The two donor figures stand on lotus pedestals and face each other from separate niches. The donors have elongated earlobes, and wear tall hats with extended side flaps rolled into tight coils, long Tibetan-style sheepskin coats with broad collars, and belts. The two figures mirror each other, extending opposing arms down and holding lotuses in front of their chests with their other hands. There are small niches of various sizes behind the two donors. |
