This figure is located within the niche on the west side of the central pillar. The disciple Ananda stands to the left of the Buddha. He has a round shaven head with a broad forehead, straight nose, elongated ears, and a small mouth. The face has a soft, gentle expression and the palms are joined in anjali (reverence) mudra. |
