Jin Tingbiao

Jin Tingbiao, also known as Shikui, was a painter from Wuxing district in Huzhou. His father, Jin Hong, was an artist who specialized in landscape, figure, flower, and bird paintings. Jing became a royal court artist after offering his line sketch painting of Arhat to Emperor Qianlong (reigned 1736-1795) of the Qing dynasty. His paintings are an exquisite mixture of elaborate and traditional brushwork, with an impressionistic style in bright colors.
Jin's painting entitled Arhat is vivid yet simple. It was documented in Album of Jin Tingbiao's Line Drawings of Arhats. These Arhat paintings, along with other works, such as Spring Planting in the Field, Birthday Celebration in Heaven, and Children Playing, are collected at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. Arhat and Blind Man Singing are kept at the Palace Museum in Beijing. |
