Amitabha Buddha and the Eight Great Bodhisattvas

In this thangka painting, Amitabha is depicted in the traditional Tibetan way. The body is red and the hands hold an alms bowl. Dressed in a simple monastic robe, Amitabha sits in full lotus position in front of the temples in the Western Pure Land. The Buddha is accompanied by the smaller figures of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas. At the bottom of the painting, two Dharma protectors surrounded by flames ride on horses. The thangka is mounted on cloth decorated with a dragon and cloud pattern.
