Guanghua Temple

CHINA, Shanxi, Jinzhong
Guanghua stands for Light Transformation. The temple was built in 639 during the Tang dynasty. It was rebuilt and repaired at various times. It was listed as a National Cultural Heritage Site in 2006.
The temple faces south and its surviving buildings include the Great Hero Hall, rear hall, and the west side hall. The five-by-four bay Great Hero Hall has a single-eave hip-and-gable roof with simple bracket sets supporting the eaves. Inside the building, the beams, camel-hump braces, wooden supports above rough tie beams, and the inclusion of the king post are all architectural features of the Song (960-1279) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties.
