Qingshan Temple Pagoda: Vessel

This Tang dynasty earthenware vessel was recovered from the underground palace of Qingshan Temple Pagoda in 1985.
The vessel, used as a water container, is 17 cm high, with a diameter at the base of 5.8 cm and at the mouth of 4.5 cm. The round trapezoidal base is quite high, and the body is spherical with a neck that has a gentle curve leading to the rim, which projects slightly. There are four large floral designs outlined in orange on the body of the vessel. More faint designs are also visible above the flowers, while the base and neck are plain. It is a fine example of utilizing sgraffito technique in creating earthenware vessel. |
