Ganlu Temple Iron Pagoda: Prince Siddhartha at Birth

Recovered in 1960, this representation of Prince Siddhartha as a child portrays him with his left hand pointing to the heavens, and his right pointing to the earth. According to the Dirgha Agama, the prince took seven steps immediately after his birth. He then looked in all four directions and, with his hand raised, proclaimed that he was going to liberate all sentient beings from suffering.
