Paomashan Tomb 1: Plaque

This rectangular gold plaque dating from the Eastern Jin dynasty was excavated from Paomashan Tomb 1 in 1979. It measures 5.1 cm high, 2.8 cm wide, and 0.1 cm thick and bears an engraved image of the Buddha, perhaps as a child. The Buddha has a usnisa and a nimbus, his features are simple, and he is depicted smiling. He stands with his legs apart and hands held down with palms facing outward.
