This court painting portrays Amitabha Buddha seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne, forming the dhyana (meditation) mudra. Two disciples and the Four Heavenly Kings stand beside the Buddha. In the lower register, a kneeling devotee is flanked by two warriors. Based on the inscription, this painting was completed in 1761 by Ding Guanpeng, an official. The lines were traced in gold before gold powder was applied. Such techniques are commonly seen in Buddhist court paintings from the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). |
