Maijishan Niche 69: Attendant Bodhisattva

This attendant Bodhisattva is located to the left of the seated Buddha on the back wall of Niche 69 and is mirrored by a similar Bodhisattva on the other side of the Buddha. The Bodhisattva has a high topknot and long braids that rest on the shoulders. A flower is grasped in the left hand and a vase is held in the right hand. The wide flowing blue robe, engraved in smooth, graceful folds, gives the impression of being caught in a breeze. The nimbus behind the Bodhisattva is painted on the back wall. The Bodhisattva, standing on a circular pedestal, projects a calm, caring aura. |
