Details are largely incised into this statue of a Buddha standing on a double lotus pedestal supported by a hexagonal openwork base. Details of the head are simplified, with more attention given to the set of monastic robes. The outer robe opens at the front to reveal a knotted undergarment. The folds are simplified about the upper body and arms and then pool separately over the thighs. The small hands form the conventional abhaya (fearlessness) and varada (wish-granting) mudras. Rather than barefoot, the figure is shod. The tenons behind the shoulders are once connected to a mandorla. |
