Conch

CAMBODIA; 12th–13th century; Bronze; H: 38 cm;National Museum of Cambodia, Phnom Penh
This bronze conch was created between the 12th and 13th century of the Angkor period and was used as a Dharma instrument during ceremonies.
　 The mouthpiece and the top of the conch are V-shaped and are decorated with beads and small lotus petals. The head of the conch is at the bottom and is held in place by an ornate stand supported by three legs in the form of stylized garudas; it features a large lotus petal with an image of Hevajra dancing at the center, surrounded by six deities. The top of the stand is decorated with Buddhas and beasts' heads.
