Standing Buddha

The Buddha stands on a double lotus pedestal positioned on an octagonal openwork base typical of Unified Silla style. The style in which he wears the monastic robe low on the shoulder leaving most of the chest bare is unique. The robe 's folds are deeply defined in their fall, making the transition to the vertical folds of the lower robe obvious. The right hand is in varada (wish-granting) mudra, while the left hand is stretched horizontally with the palm upwards, which is another extraordinary feature. The sculpture was listed as Treasure No. 284 in 1963. |
