The statue is located before the octagonal nine-tier pagoda at Woljeongsa Temple. The Bodhisattva wears a tall cylindrical headdress whose hemline sits low on the forehead, almost touching the urna. Other characteristics of an enlightened being are the elongated earlobes and three lines on the neck. The figure sits in the position of royal ease, the hands clasped at the chest, holding an object that is now missing. One elbow leans on a raised knee while the other leans on a rough stone figure. The pleats of the stole and the skirt are carved in some detail at the back of the statue. The figure was listed as Treasure No. 139 in 1963, and shows elements that represent the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392). |
