Baiyi Temple Pagoda: Hairpin with Child-Granting Avalokitesvara

The hairpin was recovered from the heavenly palace of Baiyi Temple Pagoda. It was made toward the end of the Ming dynasty.
A jade figurine of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is affixed to the center of the gold hairpin. The Bodhisattva has an oval face. The head is covered with a stole and a robe is worn on the body. The Bodhisattva holds a child while riding a turtle above a lotus pedestal. |
