Palcho Monastery Kumbum Stupa Dipamkara Shrine: Sarvanivarana Viskambhin Bodhisattva
CHINA, Tibet, Gyantse; 14th–17th century; Clay; H: 110 cm
Sarvanivarana Viskambhin, the one who removes obstructions, sits in the lotus position upon a circular lotus throne. The figure is yellow in color and adorned with jeweled ornaments with stoles draped about the body. Behind a five-leaf crown, the hair rises in a topknot with stray locks falling down behind. The Bodhisattva benignly gazes downward with long, slender eyes and brows that support a black urna. The right hand makes an elegant mudra at chest level. Emerging from a vase to the Bodhisattva's right is the blue sword of discriminating wisdom. |
