Gyesinri: Standing Buddha

SOUTH KOREA, Gyeonggi, Yeoju; Goryeo dynasty (918–1392); Stone; H: 2.8 m
This figure is carved in low relief on a cliff 20 m above the confluence of two rivers. Its features suggest that it was made during the transition between the Silla (57 BCE–935 CE) and Goryeo (918–1392) dynasties. It is listed as Provincial Tangible Cultural Property No. 98.
　 The Buddha stands upon a lotus pedestal and wears a monastic robe that hangs in regular folds. The right hand is raised to the shoulder and the left is lowered. There are flames decorating the outer layer of the triple-layered nimbus.
