Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva

The Bodhisattva wears a high headdress with an image of the Buddha at the front. The figure is distinguished by its tribhanga stance, with the waist swaying to one side and one foot slightly raised. The right hand has lost the attribute it held, while the lowered left hand carries a vase. The double strands of a beaded ornament fall downward from a jeweled necklace and meet in a medallion at the waist. Another strand continues over the skirt and adds to the swaying effect created by the stance and the rippling of the stole on either side of the body. Pegs in the feet once attached the statue to a base. It was listed as Treasure No. 927 in 1987. |
