Gameunsa Temple: Chimes

These chimes were excavated from Gameunsa Temple between 1979 and 1980. They have the distinctive style of the Unified Silla dynasty (668-935).
The larger chime, whose crown is missing, is 27.5 cm high and curves gently downwards from the shoulder. The curved rim is decorated with a band, and at the top, there are four panels, each with nine studs. There is a raised boss with a lotus pattern towards the bottom.
The smaller chime is 11 cm high and has a similar shape. There is no decoration on the surface, but there are four holes in the upper section of the body. There is a plain square crown with a round hole at the top. |
