Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva sits on a lotus throne below a canopy. The white Bodhisattva wears ornaments and a crown topped with a Buddha image. A stole is draped over the arms. The right hand supports a vase and the left hand holds a willow branch. On both sides of the painting, there are images of devotees being rescued from danger after reciting the name of Avalokitesvara. Each scene is accompanied by an inscription. In the lower register, three male and three female figures make offerings. Inscriptions identify the Fan family as the sponsors of the painting and date it to 961.
