Ren Toutuo (1601-1683)
CHINA, Hunan, Changsha; Ming to Qing dynasty (1368–1911)
Ren Toutuo, originally known as Tao Runai, was a monk from Ningxiang, Changsha. He was appointed as a junior secretary in the Hanlin Academy during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), after which he went into reclusion. It was not until later life that he renounced.
Skilled in poetry and calligraphy, a number of stele inscriptions by Ren are still kept in the various temples he visited. His extant works include Seven-Character Poem, kept at Ho's Calligraphy Foundation in Taipei, Taiwan, in addition to several collections of poetry. |
