This statuette was excavated from Tangjiaotou Tomb 4 in Ezhou, Hubei. It was found in the corridor leading to the rear chamber of the tomb. Dating from the Western Jin dynasty (265-316), this is one of the earliest Buddha statuettes from the middle region of the Yangtze River. The colored statuette is 20.6 cm high. The figure has a unisa and round face. The robe covers both shoulders and forms U-shaped folds on the chest. The Buddha is seated in full lotus position with hands placed together in front of the abdomen.
