Jiantan Temple: Incense Burner

Carved from a single stone, the front and back of this incense burner are decorated with a relief of lively dragons swimming through waves. Both sides of the top have a spiral shape, which give a sense of balance to the piece. The burner stands on short curved feet with curly patterns engraved along the bottom.
There are three inscriptions on the front of the burner. The inscription on the right states the year in which it was made, and the one on the left relates to the donor. The central inscription indicates that it was offered to the temple. |
