An inscription on this illustration of Maitreya Bodhisattva states that it was painted by Huiyun, Renxue, and Xishang with the support of the patrons Jin Xichun and Jin Jifu. In 1997, it was listed as Treasure No. 1265.
Maitreya Bodhisattva wears an impressive headdress that is decorated with Buddha images. The nimbus is composed of multiple rings of color and the aureole is adorned with floral patterns. Both shoulders are covered by a green shawl. The dhoti is decorated with intricate patterns. Both hands hold the stem of a lotus with a large red blossom. A white sash tied around the waist of the Bodhisattva hangs down to the ground. The feet rest on lotus pedestals. Maitreya is surrounded by 16 symmetrically arranged Buddha images. Curving colored lines and clouds are painted in the background. |
