This painting depicts the Amitabha Buddha Triad sitting on lotus thrones that rise from a pond. Amitabha Buddha is portrayed with a distinctive rounded body. The Bodhisattvas wear decorative headdresses and ornaments. The triad is flanked by heavenly palaces and images of Bodhisattvas, monks, and heavenly musicians. The Four Heavenly Kings and heavenly beings stand beside the altars at the bottom of the picture. In the pond below the triad there are Bodhisattvas, Arhats, and lotus-born beings. The Buddhas of the Ten Directions, Bodhisattvas, peacocks, cranes, and kalavinkas are painted in the upper register. |
