Pasho Monastery: Vajrasattva

CHINA, Tibet, Qamdo; 15th century; Gilt copper alloy; H: 40 cm
This Vajrasattva wears a five-leaf crown surrounded by buoyant ribbons and lavish earrings. The bared body is adorned with intricate jewelry and a stole that winds down the arms to the skirt below the waist. He sits on a double lotus throne in full lotus position. The figure's hands are in the lap holding a vajra. The position of the vajra identifies this figure as Vajrasattva.
