Statuette of Bodhidharma
CHINA; Dated 1952; By Liu Chuan; Stoneware; H: 51 cm;Xinshiwan Fine Arts Ceramics Factory, Foshan, Guangdong, China
Bodhidharma has an expressive face with a high forehead, thick eyebrows, deep eyes, a high-bridged nose, and a full beard. He has a determined look as he stares into the distance with a slight frown. The lower part of his heavy, hooded cloak is bright red and contrasts with the upper part, which is a more mellow golden hue. He holds a stick over his right shoulder with a bag hanging from it. He places his left foot firmly forward, which together with the movement in his cloak, produce a dynamic effect. |
