Hwangsangdong: Standing Buddha

The sculpture is located at the back of Geumgang Temple in Hwangsangdong. The style of sculpture is judged to be that of the start of the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392). It was listed as Treasure No. 1122 in 1992.
The Buddha’s face features closed eyes and small lips, and is seemingly at a different angle from the body, which is full and has a tilted waist. The long monastic robe that drapes from the shoulders to the ground is of such thin material that the form of the legs shows through. The Buddha’s hands are raised in the Dharmacakra (Dharma wheel) mudra. |
