Vajrapani Bodhisattva

The well-proportioned Bodhisattva stands with the weight of the body on one leg. The right hand holds a prongless vajra pointed at both ends, while the left hand is held at the waist in what is likely the vitarka (teaching) mudra. The high topknot is shaped like a stupa and is secured by a circlet. A Dharma wheel nimbus enclosed by beads and edged with flames encircles the head. The upper body is unadorned except for a few pieces of jewelry and a long beaded sacred thread. The figure wears a knee-length lower garment that is belted at the waist and stands on a double lotus pedestal. |
