Horyuji Temple: Vessel with Human Face

This Buddhist ritual vessel was listed as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Measuring 30.9 cm in height and 11.5 cm in diameter, the vessel has an ovoid body and a covered spout on the shoulder that resembles a human face. The neck is long and slender with a gentle curve leading up to the spout cover, which has a representation of stacked rings. All sections of the vessel were each cast separately.
