Buseoksa Temple: Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva

Several offerings were discovered inside the statue, including the information that it was made in the year 1330 and was the main statue at Buseoksa Temple in Seosan.
The Bodhisattva originally wore a crown about the topknot, with locks of hair draped over the shoulders. The figure sits in full lotus position and forms a mudra that was popular during the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392). A robe covers both shoulders of the Bodhisattva and an elaborate necklace is worn across the chest. There are other ornaments visible on the skirt. |
