CHINA, Gansu, Dunhuang; Western Xia period (1032–1227)
Located on the south wall of the corridor, this large mural depicts a tall, slender Bodhisattva wearing a flower crown and strings of ornaments which descend to the knees. A long shawl is draped over the shoulders and the Bodhisattva wears layered garments on the lower body. The right hand is held out and the left holds a hand-held incense burner. The Bodhisattva stands barefoot upon a lotus platform. |
