Sakyamuni Buddha

The Buddha sits in half lotus position on a flattened lotus throne. The flame ornament above the usnisa indicates the influence of Sukhothai, while the distinct band between the hairline and the forehead is a characteristic of U Thong sculpture. Other Buddha characteristics are the long earlobes and the three lines on the neck that signifies a great person. The right hand is in the bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra. The thin monastic robe leaves the right shoulder bare, its presence chiefly defined by hem lines and the neat fold of the material over the left shoulder. |
