Gong

KOREA; Unified Silla dynasty (668–935), dated 865; Bronze; Diameter: 31.5 cm; National Museum of Korea, Seoul, South Korea
An inscription on the underside dates this gong to 865, making it the oldest in Korea. There are several embossed rings around the gong, which is a feature of artwork from this period. Apart from the rings, the gong has a simple design and is undecorated. Suspension rings are located at the sides and at the top.
