Baixiang Pagoda: Statuette of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva

This statuette was excavated in 1965. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva sits in royal ease on a Sumeru throne. The hair is formed into a beaded topknot with a string of beads worn around the head and ribbons hanging down to the shoulders. The Bodhisattva has cresent-shaped eyebrows with an urna between them. The eyes are big, the nose is long, the earlobes hang down, and the mouth is small. The upper body is bare and is heavily decorated with bead ornaments, as well as armlets and bracelets on the arms. |
