Donghwasa Temple Geumdangam Hermitage Sumajejeon Hall: Seated Buddha
SOUTH KOREA, Daegu; Joseon dynasty (1392–1910); Gilt copper alloy
The statue from the early Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) was influenced by the style from the preceding Goryeo dynasty (918-1392). The influence is seen in the folds of the monastic robe over the abdomen and legs. The Buddha sits in a full lotus position, with the long fingers forming a mudra. The body is slightly disproportionate with the upper body being longer and the legs shorter. The monastic robe is opened at the front to reveal the inner garment. |
