Seated Buddha

The Buddha sits in full lotus position with the right hand in bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra, a posture that suggests the figure is either Sakyamuni Buddha achieving enlightenment or Aksobhya Buddha. An urna is in the center of the forehead and the usnisa is decorated with a jewel. The elongated earlobes are hollow, which is something often seen in other statues from the Malla dynasty (circa 1200–1768). The neck displays the three lines of a great person. The figure is inclined slightly forward and wears a monastic robe that leaves the right shoulder bare. The hem is raised and decorated and a corner of the robe is arranged over the left shoulder. |
