Longxing Temple: Standing Buddha

CHINA, Shandong, Qingzhou; Northern Qi dynasty (550–577); Limestone; H: 116 cm; Qingzhou Museum, Shandong, China
The incomplete Buddha is depicted standing and supporting his robes with both hands as the material folds over the wrist. The outer robe covers both shoulders and the descending folds of the tightly fitting garment are sparsely delineated. Tight curls cover the head, but there is no usnisa. The eyes are half closed and the lips form an expressive mouth.
The nimbus behind the head is slightly damaged and includes a lotus center from which concentric rings radiate. One of the seven seated Buddhas located on the edge of the nimbus is missing.
