Farhad Beg Yailaki: Hariti

This fragment was originally part of a mural at a monastery in Farhad Beg Yailaki. In Buddhist mythology, Hariti is a deity who protects children. Her husband, Pancika, represents wealth and prosperity. It is thought that images of Hariti and Pancika were originally painted above the temple gate. Hariti is shown with a group of children climbing on her. She has narrow eyes, round earrings, and a nimbus composed of multiple bands of color.
