Taklung Monastery: Tsatsa with Manjusri Bodhisattva

This clay Tibetan tsatsa in the form of a votive tablet has a representation of Manjusri. The Bodhisattva sits in tribanga posture with the legs in royal ease position on top of a lotus throne. A trefoil crown with ribbons hanging down adorns the head, and the face is round with clearly outlined features. The rectangular frame and nimbus behind the Bodhisattva are decorated with pearls. The bare upper body is adorned with beaded ornaments, armlets, and a sacred string. A sword is held in the right hand, while the left hand rests naturally upon the knee. |
