Yunlong Temple Great Hero Hall: Cintamanicakra Avalokitesvara

This statue depicts the six-armed manifestation of Avalokitesvara as the wish-fulfilling wheel holder, as described in the Cintamanicakra Avalokitesvara Yoga and the Cintamanicakra Dharani Sutra.
The Bodhisttva is seated in the posture of royal ease upon a lotus throne. The miter-like crown is fronted with a Buddha image, with a flower ornament immediately beneath it. The right hands of the figure make various postures; the first hand touches the cheek in a contemplative pose; the second hand holds a wish-granting jewel at chest height and the third hand holds prayer beads. On the other side, the top left hand supports a Dharma wheel on one finger, the second hand holds a lotus bud and the third hand supports the body. A foliated mandorla curves forward behind the figure and encloses a plain aureole and a lotus nimbus. |
