Heungwangsa Temple: Incense Burner with Silver Inlay

SOUTH KOREA, North Hwanghae, Gaeseong; Goryeo dynasty (918–1392), circa 1289; Bronze; H: 38.1 cm; Ho Am Art Museum, Yongin, South Korea
This incense burner was listed as National Treasure No. 214 in 1984. Unfortunately the foot of the burner is damaged. The stem is wide at the bottom and curves up to support the bowl, which is inlaid with silver showing a lake scene and four diamond designs. The first and third diamonds feature dragons with jewels in their mouths, while the second and fourth diamonds feature phoenixes. The damaged rim is decorated with a bead and lotus pattern.
