Bodhisattva in Contemplation

KOREA; Three Kingdoms Period (57 BCE–668 CE); Gilt bronze; H: 15 cm; Guimet Museum of Asian Art, Paris, France
The statue is of 6th century Baekje origin and is considered one of the most important Buddhist statues from that period. The figure is of a crowned Bodhisattva seated in the relaxation posture and in contemplation. The head is tilted to one side and supported by a hand. The skirt flows down the legs in decorative folds to cover the seat.
