Kumbum Monastery Manjusri Shrine: Vasudhara

Like the colored statue of Sarasvati in the same monastery, this work was created by the Mongolian sculptor Zanabazar.
The figure wears a tall five-leaf floral crown studded with jewels, from which golden ribbons flutter. Vasudhara also has opulent earrings and a variety of other jewelry, that befits her status as a Bodhisattva of wealth. An urna is located in the center of her forehead and her neck has the three lines of a great person. The gilded face has alert eyes and a welcoming mouth. A dark blue stole hangs from her shoulders and wraps around her arms, while a jeweled belt secures the long red skirt below. Seated in full lotus position, her outstretched right hand rests on the knee and holds a wish-fulfilling gem. |
