Figurine of Seated Arhat

This Arhat was carved from greenish white jade. He is depicted sitting with legs crossed on a mat, and has a high forehead, wrinkled brow, eyes half closed, long earlobes, and beatific smile. His crossed-collar robe hangs loosely over his arms, the folds and patches of which are realistically carved. Both arms rest on the knees, with the right hand covered by the loose sleeve, and the left hand held with the finger tips turned inwards. The Arhat is portrayed as a congenial and wise monk who is possibly teaching the Dharma.
