Galhangsa Temple West Pagoda: Nested Reliquaries

This set of reliquaries was recovered from the west pagoda of Galhangsa Temple. The undecorated round reliquary container is 15.5 cm high and has narrow shoulders, which curve gently downwards to the base. The mouth is wide and has a mechanism for sealing the lid and holding it in place.
The reliquary bottle is 8.1 cm high and has a narrow base and a body that curves gracefully up to broad shoulders. It has a slender neck decorated with a series of rings. The top curves outwards to form the mouth, in which there is a stopper in the shape of a flat stepped cone with a finial. |
