Euigyeom
KOREA; Joseon dynasty (1392–1910)
Euigyeom was a monk and painter. In 1719, he was based at Unheungsa Temple in South Gyeongsang and took the name Geumeo. Having painted at numerous temples around Korea, he had a tremendous influence on the history of Buddhist painting in the country, as did all the painters of the Euigyeom school.
His notable paintings include Assembly at Vulture Peak and Water-Moon Avalokitesvara, kept at Unheungsa Temple in Changnyeong, as well as Vairocana Buddha and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, which are kept at Heungguksa Temple in Yeosu. |
