Mogao Cave 305: Phoenix Carriage

This image is on the south slope of the ceiling. The painting displays a female deity riding an elaborate carriage pulled by phoenixes. The carriage has a canopy and a long row of flags flutters in the wind at the back. A long-eared guide stands at the front of the carriage. The sky contains spinning celestial flowers and drifting clouds, portraying a vast heavenly realm filled with activity. |
