Mirror with Avatamsaka Triad

This round mirror is engraved with Vairocana Buddha, Samantabhadra, and Manjusri Bodhisattvas.
Vairocana is seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne and has a three-layer nimbus that surrounds the head. The Buddha has curly hair, a round face, an urna, and ears that reach to the shoulders. The hands form the bodhyangi (wisdom fist) mudra. Manjusri and Samantabhadra face inward towards the Buddha and stand barefoot on lotus pedestals. They wear high headdresses and stoles, and appear graceful with palms joined. Only Manjusri Bodhisattva on the left is wearing ornaments.
There is a nine-story pagoda on the back of the mirror, but the top is indistinct. There are three bays on each story and the first story is surrounded by a balustrade. There are wind chimes hanging from the eaves. |
